Cynthia R. Howe
Cynthia Rhoda (Iron Road) Howe “Nawizipi wiyan” (Jealous of Her Woman), age 69, of Big Bend, SD, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at her home.
Cynthia Howe was born on May 15, 1943 in Cannonball, ND to Milo and Ethel (Grey Bull) Iron Road. Her family moved to Bismarck, ND when she was 6 years old. She attended school in Fort Yates, ND at Standing Rock Boarding School. Cynthia worked for the Crow Creek High School and Crow Creek Sioux Tribe Head Start. She was always giving and willing to help everybody out. She was very supportive whenever she heard of something going on in the community. Cynthia and her family enjoyed helping cook for other families in their time of need. She enjoyed going to pow-wows and watching her children and grandchildren dance. Cynthia served breakfast every year for the Big Bend Pow-Wow since 1994. She was very supportive of the Bad Moccasin Sundance.
In 1960, she married John Howe and welcomed 9 children to their marriage.
She is survived by her husband, John Howe Sr., her children: Janice (Louis) Adrian of Big Bend, SD, Candice Howe, of Pierre, SD, Ethel (Dwight) Left Hand Bull of Big Bend, SD, Clarice (Ken) Jewett of Big Bend, SD, Marice Howe of Pierre, SD, John (Jen) Howe, Jr. of Big Bend, SD, Leatrice (Londel) Seaboy of Big Bend, SD, Raynard (Lora Lee) Howe Sr. of Big Bend, SD, Charles (Garilyn) Howe Sr. of Big Bend, SD, Travis Fire Cloud of Pierre, SD, Guy St. John Jr. of Big Bend, SD, and adopted son: Galin Drapeau of Marty, SD, brother: Sandy (Shirley) Iron Road, sister: Sharlene Iron Road both of Mandan, ND, adopted brother: Butch Felix of Sisseton, SD, special grandson Edward Jewett, 48 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends.
Cynthias was a mom, sister, aunt, grandma, great-grandma and special relative to everyone that knew her. She was loved and will be missed by all of us very much.
Funeral services for Cynthia Howe will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Catherine’s Hall in Big Bend, SD at 11:00 AM. Father Joe Dean, Galin Drapeau, Gene Thin Elk and Janice Badmoccasin will officiate.
Interment will be held at the Howe Family Cemetery.
Wake services will be held on Wednesday, August 15 and Thursday, August 16 beginning at 4:00 PM. Services will begin at 7:00 each night.
Casket Bearers will be Wesley Fire Cloud, Allen Bull Bear Jr., Cameron Howe, Manuel Jewett, Londell Ashley, Charles Howe Jr., Ignatius Young Bear and Raynard Howe Jr.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Margaret Cutt, Menia Mann, Louella Cloud, Audrey Jones, Jolene Arrow, Eleanore Dunn, Judy and Dick Hansen, Patty and Wes Parsons, Jerrilyn and Arthur Gregg, Beverly and Bob Hattum, Dominic Red Water, Grandma BlueThunder, Lynn Harrison, Bernie Starrs, Pearl Kirkie and all her relatives and friends.
Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, MN assisted the family with arrangements.
