Six advance to November 2012 Elections for Red Lake School Board

RED LAKE - With voter turnout predicted to be very low and around 14% statewide, almost half or 50% of the 2656 registered voters on the Red Lake Indian Reservation cast their ballots on the August 14, 2012 Primary Election.

Of ten candidates who filed for three school board seats, the field was narrowed down to six for the November 2012 General Election.

Those advancing were incumbent Michael Barrett with 182 votes; Thomas Barrett Jr. with 174, Robert McClain Sr. with 168, Chris Jourdain with 162, incumbent Nicole Desjarlait with 128, and Darwin Sumner, also with 128. These six will advance to the November General Election, where three will be chosen for 4 year terms that begin in January 2013.

Both Michael Barrett and Nicole Desjarlait's terms end in January 2013, along with Thomas Barrett Sr., who did not file for reelection this year. His son, Thomas Barrett Jr. however, did file for office and is one of the final six.

The Red Lake School Board will certify the results on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at a Special Meeting.

The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, which includes the presidential rate, and other federal, state and local races.
