Gov. Mike Huckabee and Restore America’s Voice renew fight for repeal of Obamacare

Popular former governor to appear in organization’s new nationwide TV advertising campaign

(Washington, DC)- Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will appear once again on national TV ads recruiting citizens to pressure Congress to repeal the controversial healthcare act.

"Now that ObamaCare has been defined as the largest tax increase in American history--despite repeated promises by the White House and Congressional leaders that no new taxes would be levied--we believe a new vote in the Senate is more than justified," said Ken Hoagland, Chairman of Restore America's Voice Foundation.

The former governor, now a popular television and radio personality, played a key role as Restore America’s Voice spokesman when the organization took the lead in the fight against passage of Obamacare. As RAV continues it's next push to repeal Obamacare in the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling last month, Governor Huckabee is again taking a lead role in an upcoming TV campaign.

“We are greatly pleased to have Gov. Huckabee with us at this critical juncture,” said Hoagland. “He is an immensely popular figure who cares deeply about this critical issue. The American people know that when Mike Huckabee speaks out on an issue, he is speaking from his heart, and what comes from the heart goes to the heart.”

Throughout the congressional battle over Obamacare in late 2009 and early 2010, Gov. Huckabee and Restore America’s Voice joined forces to generate more than 2.3 million signatures of citizens opposed to its passage, presenting Congress with the largest number of petitions ever presented against a single piece of legislation. These efforts helped bring widespread attention to the negative economic impact Obamacare will have, spurred extensive national concern about its passage, and ultimately led to it becoming one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation in U.S. history. Today, the majority of Americans oppose its enactment.

After the bill’s passage, Restore America’s Voice continued building its base of supporters through sustained opposition to Obamacare and by taking the lead in supporting or opposing a number of other key political causes.

The new national TV ad campaign featuring Gov. Huckabee signals a renewed effort by the conservative organization to spearhead the complete and total repeal of this controversial law. Last year, Restore America’s Voice presented the House with more than half a million petitions demanding repeal. The next day the House voted for full repeal. Earlier this year the campaign delivered petitions with 1.6-million names to the Senate demanding the repeal of Obamacare.

Restore America’s Voice has now shifted its attention again to the Senate, where, despite a vow by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to not allow a vote, Hoagland is confident repeal can finally be achieved.

“Last week 100,000 of our supporters called Senate offices demanding a new vote. We are going to keep the pressure on the Senate and continue to demand a roll call, up-and-down vote.” Hoagland said. “The American people deserve to know where each member of the Senate stands now that we know Obamacare will saddle the American people with the largest middle-class tax increase in history.

“With Gov. Huckabee leading the charge, I believe we are going to see the Senate deluged with demands that they do the right thing and repeal this monstrosity. If they do not, at the very least, come November, the voters will know who stood with them and who protected the bait and switch tactics employed by Barack Obama and Harry Reid in enacting this legislation.”

Ken Hoagland is chairman of RepealItNow.org and Restore America’s Voice Foundation.
