Woman sentenced for furnishing alcohol to teens

BEMIDJI – A Cass Lake woman has been sentenced for providing alcohol to teenagers.

Angela Lee Jacobs, 32, was convicted of gross misdemeanor liquor – purchase/sell/barter/furnish/give to someone under the age of 21. She was sentenced to one year in jail with 259 days stayed for two years.

She must serve 106 days in jail but was given credit for 106 days already served. A $750 fine was stayed for two years. She must pay $160 in fees.

She was sentenced July 19 by Beltrami County District Judge John Melbye.

According to the criminal complaint, Jacobs on Nov. 18, 2011, purchased a bottle of Bacardi rum and gave it to her 13-year-old daughter and two of her daughter’s friends, 13 and 14 years old, who were spending the night.

When the 13-year-old friend returned home the next morning, his mother suspected he had been drinking and called law enforcement, the complaint states. A preliminary breath test indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of .054.

Deputies responded to Jacobs’ home. The daughter’s blood-alcohol content was .135, based on a preliminary breath test, the complaint states. Jacobs was arrested.

The other friend was soon found at his home with a .08 blood-alcohol content based on a preliminary breath test, the complaint states.
