International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local 110 Celebrates 100 Years of Service to the Eastern Metro

St. Paul, MN – July 25, 2012 - IBEW Local 110, a union of electrical professionals covering St. Paul and the Eastern Metro, is celebrating 100 years of commitment to excellence. Harriett Island will be alive on July 28th with a historical celebration of 100 years of electrical progress and professionalism.

Chartered on July 29, 1912, IBEW Local 110 started with only dozens of electrical workers. Over the years, St. Paul electricians have successfully promoted reasonable and safe methods of work, cultivated professional relationships in the community, settled disputes fairly and equitably, and assisted each other in times of need. Through continued solidarity, IBEW Local 110 has secured a high standard of living, security and safety for their 3196 members and families.

“The 100 year anniversary asks us to look back at the rich history that has kept this organization strong”, said Joe Lubitz, Retiree and Event Organizer, “Thinking back on the working conditions of our founding fathers and the sacrifices they made, it makes me proud to be a part of this milestone celebration.” Jamie McNamara, IBEW Local 110 Business Manager, added “These early days set the tone for a genuine caring and concern for our members. Local 110 continues to work diligently to provide them with the best possible wages and benefits, to secure safe working conditions and to offer training to keep us the safest, most highly trained electrical professionals in the industry. We look forward to serving our members into the next 100 years.”

IBEW Local 110 is also proud of the strong connections it has with the community. As the title sponsor of IBEW Holiday Lights in the Park, members have volunteered and assisted in providing over $170,000 to local charities. Contributions from Holiday Lights provide childcare services, family counseling, food, shelter, education, and much more. In addition to Holiday Lights, Local 110 members also contribute to Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots and more.

The anniversary celebration will begin at noon at Harriet Island with a color guard opening ceremony honoring Red Bull military veterans. Special guests include union leadership, retirees, and elected officials. After a brief program, a moment of silence will be observed at 1:10 p.m. for deceased members.
