MEET THE ARTISTS- OPEN HOUSE

Area resident Steve Beaubien will be the featured artist at the Blank Canvas Gallery in August

Area resident Steve Beaubien will be the featured artist at the Blank Canvas Gallery in August.

His artwork will go up in a special display on July 31 and continue through the month of August. There will be a public reception celebrating the new show on August 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the gallery.

Steve will be displaying recent paintings of Park Rapids area landscapes and also from his travel this last winter to South Carolina. Steve paints primarily "en plein air" which means out in the open. He takes his paint box and easel

outside and paints directly from nature. He can be seen in and around Park Rapids when he is out painting. If you see someone along the road or in a ditch painting a picture it is very likely Steve at work. A favorite genre of his is painting rivers, streams and ponds.

"I like to paint scenes that people travel past every day as they go about their lives. I am hopeful people seeing my paintings of these scenes will be encouraged and inspired to be more conscious of nature's beauty all around them. There certainly is a lot of wonderfully beautiful scenery around the Park Rapids area. I want my paintings to help people to appreciate more the things we all too often take for granted as we drive back and forth to work and play."

Some new guest artists will also be featured at the gallery in August. The Park Rapids area quilters' group, the "Crazy Quilters" will display works as well as the "Minnesota Lakes Woodturners", a regional group of artisans who will be showing artwork in wood that may be hard to believe is even possible to make. Whether it be paintings from nature, art pieces in fabric or wood you will see creations that will awe you.

The public reception for this new show will be Friday, August 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the Blank Canvas gallery, 311 Main Ave. S. in Park Rapids. Enjoy wine and refreshments, visit with Steve and the other artists, learn about their artwork, what inspires them and have a fun time.

It's always free, fun and inspiring to visit:
