Vernon Royce Hawk

Vernon Royce Hawk, 66, of the Kingfisher Clan, of Bemidji, MN, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Traditional Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN, with Spiritual Leader Steve Jackson officiating. A wake will begin at 3:00pm, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club, and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born on August 2, 1945, in Ponemah, MN, the son of Benais and Edith (Wind) Hawk. He was raised in Ponemah by his grandfather Nodin Wind. He lived and worked in Minneapolis, and later in Bismark, ND. He moved to Bemidji and enjoyed cruising around town in his scooter. He was a grass dancer as a young man, he also enjoyed going to the casino, traveling, and visiting with his friends and family.

He is survived by his: Son, Vernon Thorson, Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his special friend Sandy Thorson, his parents, siblings, Delores Hawk, Florence Hawk, Rose Hawk, Faye Kingbird, Mark Kingbird, Leonard Hawk, Justina Hawk, special niece Mary Kingbird, and grandson Michael Kingbird.

Active Casketbearers will be: Sheldon Smith, Verlin “Itto” Kingbird Sr., Troy Cook, Tyrone Smith, Markus Kingbird, Lil’ Rob Kingbird, Verlin “Jay-R” Kingbird Jr., Mathaniel “Nano” Kingbird, Matt Kingbird, with alternates: Brian Smith Sr., Daniel Hawk, and Francis Thunderhawk.

Honorary Casketbearers will be: Royce Kingbird, Mark Kingbird, Albert Kingbird, Vernon Kingbird, James “Ames” Kingbird, Michael Hawk, Big Rob Kingbird, and Ronald “Ringo” Smith.
