Red Lake 2015 Integrated Resource Management Plan

Red Lake 2015 Integrated Resource Management Plan:

The Red Lake Nation is working on a long-term Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRMP). This plan will guide the various Tribal Departments and Programs to strengthen coordination and communications, reduce duplication or conflicting efforts and reduce costs. It will define how program managers, resource users and Band members cooperate to preserve and protect Tribal resources from loss, damage, waste or depletion for the benefit of the Red Lake Nation as a whole.

In 2011 the IRMP Committee was established by the Tribal Council to gather public input and oversee the planning process. Groups involved include: the Tribal Department of Natural resources (DNR), Roads - Cultural values and archaeology, Planning & Economic Development, Housing Authority, Realty, Hospital, Public Health, Sanitation, Public Safety, Schools, the Legal Department and the Courts.

Topics that would benefit from Band member input have been identified by members of the planning team and from community listening sessions that were held in all four Red Lake Nation Districts over the past few months.

Using this information, and with the aid of Bemidji State University, a survey has been developed to gather Tribal Member opinions about building a better future for the Red Lake Nation.

All adult Band Members will receive the survey & a postage paid return envelope during August, 2012. When they return the survey all participants are encouraged to provide additional comments concerning where the quality of life is good or where improvements could be made.

The results of the survey will be printed in The Red Lake Nation News and be posted on Red Lake Nation web site.
