Election board certifies May for Red Lake seat

RED LAKE – Incumbent Donald “Dudie” May won the run-off election for the Red Lake representative on the Red Lake Tribal Council.

May captured 490 votes, or 54.9 percent, in the Wednesday run-off election. Lee Lussier Jr. captured 402 votes, or about 45.1 percent of ballots cast.

The official results were released Thursday by the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians Election Board, which certified the results.

In May, voters decided three other tribal council seats, selecting Allen D. Pemberton as the Redby representative, Richard W. Barrett Sr. as the Little Rock representative and Randy “Jiggs” Kingbird as the Ponemah representative.

May and Lussier were the candidates with the most votes in the May election, but neither received more than 50 percent of the ballots cast, prompting Thursday’s run-off election.
