POSITION TITLE: Director of Academic Development and Assessment

DEPARTMENT: Administrative Office

REPORTS TO: LLTC Dean of Academics and RLNC President

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

ESTABLISHED: July 17, 2012

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Director of Academic Development and Assessment is a key member of the Leech Lake Tribal College (LLTC) and Red Lake Nation College (RLNC) administrative teams. This person will serve as the lead technical person for academic development and assessment for the Red Lake site of the LLTC.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

This position is required to work full time and be accountable for being at work between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. May require flex schedule to accommodate college events. This person must be accessible in the office for both students and public during the times established as directed by the Leech Lake Tribal College Dean of Academics and Red Lake Nation College President. This person will maintain records and files as appropriate to the needs of the department.

Leech Lake Tribal College, in collaboration with Red Lake Nation College, will hire an individual, who will work full time – approximately 32 hours per week in Red Lake, and 8 hours per week in Leech Lake, to act as the liaison between the two colleges. This person, though officially an employee of LLTC, will report to and be supervised by the LLTC Dean of Academics and also have an office at LLTC, in addition to having an office in Red Lake.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Presenting all RLNC syllabi to LLTC’s curriculum committee for review and approval.

2. Present curriculum vitae of all RLNC candidate instructors to LLTC’s Administrative Team for review and approval to hire.

3. Assist RLNC in the development of a faculty handbook.

4. Assist RLNC in developing a Master Syllabus.

5. Assist RLNC in developing a policy related to credit hours.

6. Assist RLNC in developing an academic assessment plan.

7. Assist RLNC in developing a reporting and recording system for student achievement and persistence.

8. Assist in the development of a registration and reporting system from RLNC to LLTC.

9. Assure student records are kept complete at both LLTC and RLNC.

10. Assist with the Assessment of LLTC student’s at the RLNC site.

11. Maintain positive work relationship and clear lines of communication with the RLNC President, RLNC Academic Dean and the Leech Lake Tribal College administrative staff.

12. Serves on various college committees and participates in professional organizations as appropriate.

13. Resolve or assist in the resolution of problems and/or complaints and initiate corrective action as appropriate.

15. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the RLNC President.

EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENTS:

 Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and experience working with Native communities.

 Knowledge of higher education assessment measures and their applications.

 Knowledge of standardized test administration.

 Proven track record and demonstrated leadership in higher education assessment, experience with theory and practice of academic assessment, awareness of current trends and directions in assessment.

 A strong record of leadership and the proven ability to think strategically, prioritize effectively, and act decisively.

 Strong personal integrity and enthusiasm.

 A strong commitment to meeting student needs and providing a quality educational experience for all students.

 Understanding of standardized and computer-based tests.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES / SKILLS:

 Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe history and culture.

 Understanding and knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of RLNC and LLTC.

 Willingness to initiate and carry out complex tasks with or without supervision.

 Knowledge of technological systems and software as they apply to academic development and higher education administration needs.

 Knowledge of contemporary writing style.

 Knowledge of research methods and funding sources.

 Skills in designing resource tools, materials and presentations for writing proposals.

 Skills in effective English language and grammar.

 Strong verbal and written communication skills.

 Skills in database management, team building, problem solving, and policy and procedure development.

 Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, communicates effectively, gather and analyze program data and generate reports.

 Outstanding human relations skill and strong interpersonal skills.

 Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

 Team player and team personality who can work with two diverse administrative teams at both RLNC and LLTC.

 Ability to travel and work beyond the regularly scheduled workday.

 Ability to provide outstanding quality customer service and support to the RLNC & LLTC stakeholders.

EDUCATION:

Master’s Degree or PhD preferred with previous higher education administrative experience in academic development. Native Preference in hiring will apply.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Minnesota driver's license and current auto insurance.
