St. Paul - Approximately 116,000 people in Minnesota's communities are under the watch of a county or state supervision agent - either on probation, parole or community supervision. The Department of Corrections is recognizing the work of these employees during Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week, this year July 15-21.
Supervision agents work in the community to hold offenders accountable for their actions and connect them to the resources they need to make a positive change in their lives. Agents use evidence-based practices to target the right resources to the right offenders.
"By helping these offenders turn their lives around - connecting them to treatment, jobs and housing - we can reduce the risk of them committing new crimes," said Corrections Commissioner Tom Roy. "These agents are on the front lines of making our communities safer places."
Recent data show that 85 percent of probationers and 72 percent of offenders on supervised release after serving time in prison remain free of felony convictions three years after leaving supervision.
