RLYB Splits With Knights, Ends Losing Streak

In Bemidji Youth Baseball League action Thursday night, Red Lake was able to come out of a month long hitting slump and split a pair with the Knights of Columbus.

Game one featured a rare pitchers duel that was decided by the only run of the game for both teams that came in on an RBI single that scored Miciah Roberts. Red Lake’s Trent Beaulieu pitched a near-flawless 3 innings by striking out 7 batters. Austin May relieved him with 6 strikeouts of his own. Though Red Lake had more than enough opportunities to score, the month-long hitting slump & tough Knights pitching was too much. The Knights of Columbus won, 1-0.

Cole Cobenais and Jaden Wood were the only ones to get a hit.

Game two saw the Red Lake bats come alive. After Rob Beaulieu singled in the first, Austin May was able to bring him in to start the offensive attack, giving Red Lake an early 1-0 lead they would never give up.

Aaron English started the 2nd inning offense with a leadoff single and was followed by a Cole Cobenais walk and Justin Barrett single to load the bases. Jaden Wood brought in English with a single. Austin May brought in Cobenais with a single and Tom May had a 2 RBI double that brought in Barrett and Austin May. Red Lake led 6-1 after two innings.

Wood and Beaulieu started the offense again in the 3rd inning with back to back singles. Wood scored on Beaulieu’s single after stealing both 2nd & 3rd base. Austin May brought in Beaulieu with an RBI triple, his 3rd RBI of the game. May would later score in a Tom May double. Red Lake led 9-1 after 3 innings.

Game two starting pitcher Aaron White got all of the offensive he would need as he dominated the Knights offense by giving up only 1 run and striking out 7 in a complete game effort.

The offense was a team effort, with Austin May leading the way going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Rob Beaulieu 2 for 3 and Tom May 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs of his own.

RLYB next plays Subway Tuesday, July 17. Van leaves the Boys & Girls Club at 4:45.
