ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF OJIBWEMOWIN

The College of St. Scholastica, in Duluth, Minnesota, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Global, Cultural, and Language Studies (GCL) to begin late August 2012. The successful candidate will teach a spectrum of undergraduate courses in Ojibwe language and culture; work closely with the Native Teacher Program; help build a new Ojibwe Education licensure program; assume academic advising duties; and participate in faculty governance. M.A. (required) or Ph.D. (preferred) in Ojibwemowin, Linguistics, or closely related field. Native or near-native fluency in Ojibwemowin and English required. Possible areas of specialization include Education, American Indian Studies, and Indigenous art and music. The successful candidate will have teaching experience, show the potential for active scholarship, and demonstrate a dedication to working with diverse communities. First-hand knowledge of traditional belief systems in Ojibwe communities is preferred.

The Department of Global, Cultural, and Language Studies offers majors and minors in both Global Studies and Spanish, plus minors in German, Russian, French and additional coursework in Ojibwemowin, Latin, and American Sign Language. Philosophically, the department embraces the study of languages and culture as a way to promote peace, justice, and understanding in a diverse world.
