Susan Marie (Auginaush) Headbird (Gii Ga Kee – One Close To The Earth), 87 of Cass Lake died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN with Rev. George Ross and Rev. Mark Olson officiating. A wake will begin at 4:00 pm, Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake and go until the time of services. Interment will be at the Prince of Peace Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

She was born January 19, 1925 in La Prairie Township, Clearwater County, MN the daughter of John Auginaush, George Fox and Louise (Gagnon Auginaush) Fox. She attended school in Wahpeton, ND and Flandreau, SD. She married James Scott Headbird June 7, 1945. She spoke the Ojibwe language fluently and loved to sing ojibwe hymns. She truly enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, reading, cooking, cleaning, feeding birds, planting flowers, feeding stray dogs, picking blue berries and pine cones, quilting and ricing. She was an avid collector of owls and she loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. When her husband was alive they enjoyed spending time with their dear friends at the Beer Garden in Bemidji.

She is survived by her 3 daughters: Donna (Dave) Murray Louise (Mike, Sr.) Masten Sheryl (David Yost) Wark 1 son: Earl Headbird, Sr. 1 sister: Isabelle Thompson 5 brothers: George Auginaush, Sr. Richard (Lorraine) Fox, Sr. Raymond (Bernadine) Fox Earl Fox Louis (Leah) Fox 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren And numerous other relatives

She was preceded in death by her husband Scott Headbird, 4 children Alfred “Doffy” Headbird, Norma “JoJo” Johnson, James Scott Headbird, Jr. and Linda Marie Headbird, 1 grandchild Vickie Masten, 2 brothers Joe Auginaush and Norman Auginaush, 1 sister Dorothy Stevens and 2 sons-in-law Mike Masten, Sr. and Dave Murray.
