James Norman Jones

James Norman Jones, 70, of Red Lake, MN, died Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Facility in Red Lake, MN.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, June 22, 2012 at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN, with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin in the afternoon, Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN, and will continue until the time of the service. Interment following cremation will be at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born on July 22, 1941, in Red Lake, MN, the son of Albert and Catherine (Dorey) Jones. He was raised and educated in Red Lake, graduating from Red Lake High School. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1959 until 1963. He attended the Indian Police Academy in Roswell, NM in 1971. He was a Minnesota State Trooper and later went on to work as a police officer in the Red Lake Police Department. In 1979 he attended the Detroit Lakes Vocational Technical Institute and in 1980 received his certification as a heavy equipment operator. In 1987 he began work for Red Lake Gaming as a Security Officer. He worked at Red Lake Bingo, Seven Clans Casino in Warroad, MN, and at Seven Clans Casino in Red Lake until his retirement. He enjoyed gambling, reading Louis L’Amour books, playing guitar, and watching sports.

He is survived by his children: Steven Strong of Redby, MN, Michelle Strong of Red Lake, MN, Phylicia Sumner of Red Lake, MN, Dawn LaRock of Minneapolis, MN, Lee Jones of Nett Lake, MN, Numerous Grandchildren, and his Great Granddaughter Neveah Graves

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Albert Jones, Gerald Jones, Bernard Jones, Thomas Jones, George Jones, sisters Christine Valtierra, and Darlene Gibbs.

Honorary Casketbearers will be: Raymond Smith, Robert Roybal, Raymond Strong, Oliver Gibbs, Annie Sumner, Margaret Gibbs, Lisa Lyons, Tina Roybal, Robert Needham, Jeremiah Defoe, the Staff of the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Facility.

Active Casketbearers will be: Nick Strong, Mike Defoe, Richard Gibbs, David Defoe, Jimmy Johnson, Guy Johnson, Henry Sumner Jr., and George Gibbs.
