Albrecht Announces Run for Mayor of Bemidji

Tuesday, Bemidji city council member and long time resident Rita Albrecht filed for the office of Bemidji Mayor.

"After careful consideration, I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Bemidji. I made the decision to run after being approached by many community members who believe that we need an energetic and positive voice for the city in the Mayor's office,” said Albrecht.

In addition to serving as the current Ward 4 council member, Albrecht brings experience gained from more than 35 years as a community leader and resident of Bemidji. She is the former Bemidji community development director and currently works as a planner for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.

“Bemidji is a wonderful community that has a lot to celebrate. As Mayor, I will bring my experience and passion for Bemidji to work on behalf of the entire community,” said Albrecht.

Albrecht earned her BA in Geography and BS in Social Studies from Bemidji State University. She is a Blandin Community Leadership graduate and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), the nationally recognized competency standard for professional planners. Rita and her husband Mike have two grown children.
