George Richard Maxwell Sr.

George Richard Maxwell Sr., 77, of the Mighty Bear Clan of Red Lake passed on to the spirit world with his surrounding family by his side to comfort his journey, Friday June 1, 2012 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, Minnesota. George was born to Bertha (Smith) and Baptiste Maxwell on October 18, 1934.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN. A wake will be will begin at 11:00 Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Little Rock Center and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He worked various jobs throughout his life. He worked with the Food Distribution program for 26 years before retiring. He loved spending time with all of his loved ones, especially with his “Bro” John Maxwell. He had a love of horses and had a special horse named Barney. He loved watching the Vikings and wrestling and listening to country western music.

He is survived by: wife of 33 years, Gladys A. Maxwell Sons, George R. Maxwell Jr. of Redby, MN, Julius “Renee” Maxwell of Red Lake, MN and Kelly J. Maxwell of Forrest City, AR; Grandchildren, Julius L. Maxwell Jr, Messiah Grace Elijah Maxwell, Emanuella Maxwell and Kalita Maxwell all of Redby, MN Step-Daughters, Ida and Iris Black of Redby, MN; Sisters, Ruby (Roger) Bratvold of Clearbrook, MN, Melvina Maxwell, Betty (George) King and June Maxwell all of Red Lake Brothers, John Maxwell and Robert (Pam) Maxwell of Little Rock and many nieces and nephews and other relatives

He was preceded in death by his parents Bertha (Smith) and Baptiste Maxwell; sisters, Joan Maxwell-Wipf, Violet Maxwell, Leona Stately and Gladys Rogers; brothers, Edward Maxwell, Donald Maxwell, and Allen Maxwell, special brother, Aloysius “Wishy” Thunder, step-son, Marvin “Harv” Black; and several nieces and nephews

Active Casketbearers will be: Darwin Johnson, Gary Lee Maxwell, Phillip Fineday, Pat Brun, Chris Maxwell, Robert Fineday, Corey Wipf, Joe Redeagle Jr., with alternates, his “Bros”, Robert “Babe” Maxwell, John Maxwell and son, Kelly Maxwell.

Honorary Casketbears will be: Duane “Ole” Spears, Dwight “Iggy” Sayers, Darrell Seki Sr., Arlie Wipf, Craig Maxwell, Arnold Maxwell Sr., Edna Johnson, Sugar King and Rachel Neadeau.
