Diana Sweeney announces her candidacy for the Minnesota Ninth Judicial District Court, Seat 7
Longtime Bemidji attorney, Diana Sweeney, has filed to run for judge in the Minnesota Ninth Judicial District, Seat 7. All voters of the 17 northwestern Minnesota counties will have a vote in this election. Ms. Sweeney believes that the voters of the district require a hardworking, experienced, and skilled jurist on the bench.
Diana Sweeney has represented many clients across the district in both civil and criminal matters. As a Minnesota licensed attorney, she has actively practiced law in the Ninth Judicial District for the past 22 years. She was an associate with Shermoen, LeDuc and Jaksa in International Falls prior to 1996 and for the past 16 years she has worked as a Minnesota State Public Defender in Beltrami County.
Ms. Sweeney is active in the community both as a lawyer and citizen. Currently serving on the Minnesota Supreme Court Juvenile Rules Committee, she has also taught constitutional law at Bemidji State University, volunteered as a high school mock trial team coach and judge, and was a chosen delegate to the Minnesota Bar Association State Convention. Ms. Sweeney is active in the community, having twice served as chairperson of the ‘Bemidji Proud’ school funding committee, chairing the Bemidji Music Boosters, and volunteering for PTO, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Bemidji Youth Soccer organization, among others.
