Candidates can begin filing for office today

BEMIDJI – Filing opens today for local, state and federal offices.

Candidate filings open today, May 22, and runs through June 5.

Filing is open during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on weekdays. There will be no filing on May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.

The general election will be Nov. 6.

Federal and state offices

Filing for federal offices, such as the U.S. senators and representatives, must be done at the Office of the Secretary of State in St. Paul.

Filing for state and judicial offices may be done with either the Secretary of State or with the local county auditor’s office.

On the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners, the four-year terms for districts 2 and 4 are open.

Filing also is open for three four-year district seats with the Beltrami Soil and Water District.

Filing for county positions should be done at the Beltrami County auditor’s office.

There are four seats open on the Bemidji City Council, including the two-year mayoral seat and four-year seats for wards 1, 3 and 5. Filing for City Council should be done with the city clerk’s office at Bemidji City Hall.
