Red Lake man sentenced for involuntary manslaughter

A Red Lake, Minn., man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court for causing a drunk driving accident that threw a woman from the open bed of his pickup and killed her.

Kyle Mitchell Lee Hardy, 21, was given credit for time served, and must be under three years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter.

In his plea agreement, Hardy admitted he was driving drunk on the Red Lake Indian Reservation on Aug. 28, 2009, when he mishandled the car going around a curve, tossing two juvenile passengers from the pickup bed.

One suffered a broken ankle, the other died as a result of injuries sustained during the accident.
