BEMIDJI – The Cass Lake-Bena baseball team won three of four games last week, including Monday’s 10-0 victory over Kelliher-Northome at the Bemidji State University diamond.
Jake Ellis ripped a pair of hits and Nic Rairdon scored three runs to lead the Panthers and Caleb Fisher went the full five innings on the mound to earn the pitching victory.
CL-B owned a 5-0 advantage after four innings and put the game on ice with five runs in the fifth.
Also last week the Panthers (9-7) thumped Laporte 11-1 and split with Lake of the Woods, dropping the opener 12-5 but claiming the rematch 8-7.
Ellis had three hits and Fisher two in the victory over Laporte. Ben Ruzek had two of CL-B’s four hits in the loss to LOW while Ellis and Ryan Erickson each contributed two hits in the 8-7 victory.
In other area baseball action during the past week Bagley (10-7) lost 4-0 to Blackduck, downed Red Lake 14-2 and lost 6-1 to Roseau.
Kelliher-Northome split four outings, defeating Lake of the Woods 15-5, topping Mahnomen 7-6, losing to Mahnomen 13-6 and falling 10-5 to Blackduck.
Blackduck improved to 13-3 after stopping Bagley and K-N and losing 6-3 to Pine River.
SOFTBALL
Cass Lake-Bena (10-6) lost 14-4 to Nevis and 3-2 to Pine River but blistered Blackduck 21-2.
Red Lake (0-8) forfeited to Indus and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and also lost 19-9 to Laporte.
Blackduck dipped to 4-15 after falling to Remer 14-11, K-N 17-7 and CL-B. Laporte (3-9) dropped a 13-1 decision to Nevis and also lost 15-14 to K-N and 10-0 to Pine River.
Kelliher-Northome (5-8) fell to Lake of the Woods 11-1 but then downed Blackduck and Laporte.
Bagley (12-6) went 2-1, stopping Northern Freeze 4-0 and Fosston 5-4 but losing 8-0 to Norman County East.
