Officer Kingbird and K-9 partner Jack, place 2nd in Region 12 Narcotic Certification Trials

RED LAKE, MN -On April 14, 2012, Red Lake Department of Public Safety Canine Officer Kendall Kingbird along with his 5 year old K-9 partner jack, who is a Belgian Malinois attended the Region 12 Narcotic Certification Trials in St. Peter, MN. The event was sponsored by the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Department and is held in different locations on an annual basis to maintain Narcotic Certifications for K-9 teams.

The event consisted of 59 K-9 teams searching and locating illegal drugs intentionally hidden during different types of scenarios and locations and involved regional teams. Upon completion of the certifications, the Red Lake Department of Public Safety would proudly like to say that the team was awarded a 2nd place over all finish by the Region 12 President in the competition and certification event. There were a possible 200 points which was a perfect score during certifications and the team scored an amazing 199.3 which was just shy of a perfect score.

Officer Kingbird and K-9 Jack have been partners since 2008 and both graduated from Top Dog Academy in Evansville, Indiana. Prior to the event, the team has spent many hours training together and has attended several trainings and yearly certifications sponsored by the United States Police Canine Association.
