BLACKDUCK – Blackduck continues to dominate the area baseball scene as the Drakes went 3-0 last week to improve to 11-2.

Winners of seven consecutive games, Blackduck defeated Lake of the Woods 13-7, Cass Lake-Bena 9-1 and Red Lake 13-1. Tuesday the Drakes were scheduled to host Bagley and Thursday finds them at Kelliher-Northome.

Bagley entered the week with a 9-5 record after downing K-N 6-1 and Laporte 15-1 but losing 3-2 to Mahnomen.

The Flyers will entertain Red Lake Thursday.

After losing to Bagley, Kelliher-Northome bounced Walker-Hackesack-Akeley 3-1 to improve to 4-5. The Mustangs hoped to play a doubleheader at Mahnomen Tuesday and will welcome Blackduck Thursday.

Cass Lake-Bena went 2-3 during the past week, defeating WHA 8-7, splitting with Pine River and losing to Blackduck and Remer.

Caleb Fisher singled and scored to open the game against Blackduck but that hit was the only one the Panthers would muster in the game.

CL-B won the opener over Pine River 8-4 as Fisher and Daven Staples had three hits. Pine River took the rematch 4-3. Cass Lake-Bena had only three hits, including a two-run double by Jake Ellis.

Remer scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge CL-B 7-6. Fisher and Staples each collected a pair of hits.

The Panthers hosted Laporte Tuesday and play a twinbill at Lake of the Woods Thursday.

Laporte and Red Lake are still looking for their first wins. Last week Laporte lost 15-1 to Bagley while Red Lake fell 15-4 to Pine River and 13-1 to Blackduck.

Softball

Kelliher-Northome defeated Indus 31-6 and Remer 15-4 to improve to 3-7. Jackie Pierson went the distance on the mound against Remer, giving up nine hits and walking four.

Hope Lindner ripped four hits in five at-bats and is 19-for-33 on the season (a .576 average). Senior catcher Megan Halverson threw out three baserunners.

K-N hoped to visit Lake of the Woods Tuesday and will be home Thursday against Blackduck and Friday for a doubleheader with Laporte.

Cass Lake-Bena stretched its winning streak to six games, downing Laporte 18-5 and Red Lake 13-0 and sweeping Indus 10-0 and 6-1.

Blackduck dropped four games last week, falling 16-0 and 16-4 to Lake of the Woods, 19-3 to Littlefork and 12-3 to Hill City.

After defeating Indus 12-11 and losing to CL-B, Laporte lost a twinbill to WHA, falling 16-2 and 20-10. The Wildcats are 2-6.

Bagley split four games to improve to 10-5. After losing 13-3 to Norman County the Flyers split with Mahnomen, dropping a 3-2 decision but winning 24-8 in the rematch, and nipping Frazee 11-9.
