NEW DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS DEPUTY COMMISSIONER

ST. PAUL - Commissioner Tom Roy has announced Terry Carlson as the Department of Corrections new Deputy Commissioner of the Facility Services Division.

"Each position I have held in this agency has been rewarding and challenging," said Carlson, "I look forward to serving the facilities division and the agency in this new role, continuing to focus on safety, department improvements and preparing offenders for success upon release."

Carlson has been the assistant commissioner of the Facility Services Division since 2009. She worked her way up the correctional ladder, starting as a corrections officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Shakopee in 1983. She moved to watch commander at Faribault where she stayed until becoming a residential program manager back at the MCF-Shakopee.

She was promoted to associate warden of operations at Shakopee in 1992. In 1997, Carlson became the adult facilities support unit director and in 2000, the assistant commissioner of management services. She was promoted to warden of the MCF-Willow River/Moose Lake in 2001 and moved to the warden position at Rush City in 2007.

"Terry has a rich background in Minnesota corrections. As a line worker and administrator she has shown initiative and a solid work ethic. She has worked closely with all of our wardens and staff here at central office. The excellence of facility services should continue without a blink," said Roy.

Carlson's appointment is effective May 2. She succeeds David Crist who retires on May 1.
