Nathan Joseph Head III, 70, of Red Lake, MN, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Red Lake Hospital in Red Lake, MN.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin at 11:00am, Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN, and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born on January 13, 1942, in Red Lake, MN, the son of Nathan J. and Rose (McKenzie) Head. He was raised and educated in Red Lake, graduating from Red Lake High School in 1960. He attended the Haskell University in Lawrence, KS, and earned a degree in Accounting. He started work as an accountant for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, DC. He married Emma Wright in March of 1963 in Washington, DC. He later worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque, NM, and Red Lake until 1979. He worked for Red Lake Schools for a time, and also for a school in Minneapolis. He began driving cab in Minneapolis, and did so until he returned to Red Lake in 2004. He worked for the Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, and the Red Lake Casino. He was married to Diane Charnoski for a time. He was an intelligent man who enjoyed reading, crosswords, and watching Jeopardy on TV. He enjoyed fishing and hiking in the woods. He loved spending time with his coworkers, friends, family, and especially his grandchildren. He was a kind man and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by: Children, Lawrence Head of Red Lake, MN, Rose Head of Box Elder, SD, Christopher Head of Rapid City, SD, Siblings, Karen Neadeau of Red Lake, Gertrude Head of Bemidji, Marvin Head of Red Lake, Mary Head of Red Lake, Ramona (Joe) Plumer of Bemidji, Beverly Head of Bemidji, 4 Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger Head, Roderick “Deacon” Head, sisters Glendoris Smith, and Barbara Dolson.

Active Casketbearers will be: Nathan Head, Darin Head, David Head, Daniel Neadeau, Keith Head, Tim Neadeau, and Alternates: Charles Dolson, Jeffrey Dolson, and Derek Head.

Honorary Casketbearers will be: Donald Cook, Ron McKenzie, Mike Head, Jason Head, Riley Plumer, Joe Plumer, Shane Plumer, Steve Plumer, Zachary Head, Kyle Head, Roderick McKenzie, Bob Erle, Connie Neadeau, Desirie Wilson, and all his co-workers at Seven Clans Casino.
