Bagley hosts all-star basketball games

BAGLEY – Chelsey Bonsante of Crosby-Ironton scored 25 points to lead the White to a 72-53 victory over the Red Saturday in the North Central Basketball girls All-Star game.

Aleis Tappe of Frazee scored 16 for the winners and teammate Crystal Amundson of Thief River Falls added 12.

Katie Lutz of Kelliher-Northome scored 17 to lead the Red team while Kelly Heck of K-N and Valynncia White of Laporte each tallied 11.

Bonsante was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player.

Prior to the game the girls participated in a 3-point shooting contest and Brook Watkins of Clearbrook-Gonvick was the winner as she made 12 in one minute. Heck drained 11 for second place and Bonsante finished third with nine.

In the first of two boys All-Star games the White team downed the Red team 70-57.

Luke Mock of Eagle Valley paced the winners with 19 points while Daniel Nersten of Hillcrest Academy scored 18 and Tanner Schwartz of Menahga had 12.

Tate Benning of Eagle Valley had 16 for the Red team. Caleb Koecher of Moose Lake-Willow River added 14 and Taylor Mattison, also of Moose Lake-Willow River, contributed 10.

In Saturday’s other boys game the White edged the Red 73-72 in overtime.

Carey Woods of Bemidji scored 30 for the White, Joey Schuh of Kelliher-Northome tallied 12 and Verdell Beaulieu of Clearbrook-Gonvick finished with 11.

Cameron Braund of Braham scored 23 for the Red. Nick Dostal of BGMR had 13 and Tate Mosher of Fertile-Beltrami added 11.

The boys Most Outstanding Player in the first game was Koecher while Braund and Woods shared the honor in the second game.

Cody Rutledge of Bemidji won the slam dunk contest. Patrick Thompson of Bagley was second and Tanner Schwartz of Menahga third.

Anthony Bias of Braham won the 3-point shooting contest with 17 in one minute. Ryan Holthusen of Red Lake and Tate Benning of Eagle Valley each had 16.
