Cass Lake-Bena falls to Fosston on last-second 3-pointer

Kyle Arneson sank a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead Fosston to a 62-59 victory over Cass Lake-Bena in Tuesday’s East Sub-Section 8A championship game at the REA in Thief River Falls.

Caleb Fisher had tied the game 59-59 with 10 seconds to play when he sank one of his two free throw attempts.

The Greyhounds quickly moved the ball down court but in the waning seconds CL-B’s defense knocked it to the floor. After a scramble by both teams Arneson came up with the loose ball and immediately fired.

The shot clanked off the backboard as the buzzer sounded and went through the net.

“When you don’t play your best at this time of the year you are heading home,” said Panthers coach Brian Michaelson. “We had our chances. The difference came down to us missing too many open shots.”

Cody Wind led Cass Lake-Bena with 18 points and Jake Ellis had 12.

The Panthers ended another outstanding season 25-4. Fosston will take a 23-4 record into Friday’s Section 8A title game against Grygla-Goodridge-Gatzke which defeated Fertile Beltrami 58-57 Tuesday.
