RLHS Where graduates become honorable, proud, educated future ambassadors committed to life-long learning.

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff of RLHS

As you have heard from your students and teacher contacts the High School was scheduled to take NWEA MAP tests Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week (March 5, 2012) with makeup tests to follow. We have adjusted this testing to next week in respect of the Michael Kingbird family. The staff and students of RLHS are grieving the loss of Mike who graduated last year as co-Valedictorian of his class.

The NWEA MAP testing is used to measure growth of student performance in language arts, reading and mathematics. The information is used to focus instruction so that our students can better meet the standards set forth in the No Child Left Behind mandates and demonstrates this on the MCA tests coming up in April.

The Red Lake High School incentive team has organized several rewards for students who participate in next week’s testing they include a package of gum for everyone who participates when scheduled, a Gator Aide for everyone whose test score improves or remains above the mean level for his/her grade, every student who takes a test when scheduled will have their name entered for a drawing for one of 10 i-pod shuffles, every student who participates on time for all three tests will have their name entered in a drawing for one or two i-pod touches, and all students who tested on time in the class with the highest percentage of participation will receive a $10 gift card to the Bemidji Movie Theater. The incentive team hopes that by offering these incentives we can show our students how important their participation is and how much it helps the teachers teach what students need the most.

We will be planning similar incentives for students who will be taking the MCA tests in April. The MCA tests are the tests required for graduation ninth grade students will be taking the writing test (April 17), 10th grade students will be taking the MCA reading test (April 17), and the 10th grade will be taking the MCA math tests (April 17 sections 1&2 and April 18 sections 3&4), the online science test will be administered to every student who was enrolled in a high school biology class during the 2011-12 school year (April 24-26).

As always if you have questions about your student’s progress fell free to contact your student’s advisor, the registrar Mr. Jim Grandly (class schedules), RLHS SAM Nate Hurlburt (attendance), Mrs. Susan Ninham Assistant Principal or the

Principal Ramona Gehlert.

Sincerely,

Ramona Gehlert, Red Lake High School Principal
