Derek Humphrey

Derek Thomas Humphrey “D”, 25, of Bemidji formerly of Minneapolis passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his home.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Pike Bay Town Hall in Cass Lake, MN with Rev. George Ross officiating. A wake will begin at 6 pm Thursday, Feb. 16 and will continue until the time of the services on Friday. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bena, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake.

Derek was born June 17, 1986 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Troy Walker and Debra Jean Humphrey. Derek was employed for many years by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in the Addictions and Dependencies Program. He enjoyed working with his clients and co-workers, hunting, spending time with his family and his special time with his Pap.

He is survived by the two loves of his life, Monica Holmquist and their daughter Mikayla Humphrey; Grandfather Frank Humphrey “Pap;” Stepfather Carl Ellingson; brothers Travis, Mitchell and Frank Humphrey and Joe Walker; Aunt Deanna Humphrey “Antnie;” Uncles Karl and Jerry Humphrey and Tony Stangel “Unk;” nieces Audrey and Abby; special cousin Hannah; numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins; and his dog Pablo.

He was preceded in death by his mother Debra Humphrey; father Troy Walker; maternal grandmother Judy Humphrey; paternal grandparents Sandy and Jerry Walker; and maternal great-grandparents Mamie and George Humphrey and Al and Val Pelkey.

Honorary Casketbearers will be all of his co-workers at the Chemical Health Outpatient Program, and Scott Shackle, Kelly Hunt and Lucas Hunt.

Active Casketbearers will be Jack Reyes, Tyler Bogda, Steve Shackle, Todd Wilson, Jason Shackle, Aaron Shackle, Mitchell Humphrey, Travis Humphrey and Joe Klein.
