Page Education Foundation Grant Information

GRANT INFORMATION

The Page Education Foundation awards grants to Minnesota’s youth of color who are pursuing a post-secondary education. There are no academic requirements. This grant must be renewed every year. Each year a student accepts a Page Grant, they are required to mentor/tutor younger children of color (K-8th grade) through a Service-to-Children project. The goals of the Service-to-Children project are to encourage and assist young children of color to do well in school, have a positive attitude about education and see college as a long-term goal.

Page grants range from $1,000-$2,500 per student annually and are awarded each June. Students are required to renew their grant each year proving they completed their Service-to-Children project and continue to maintain full-time status. Grant amounts vary based on the type of post-secondary education student are attending.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible, the applicant must:

 be a student of color and graduate of Minnesota high school

 be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the state of Minnesota

 be enrolled full-time and maintain institutional full-time status to remain eligible

 be willing to complete a minimum of 50 hours Service-to-Children project

SELECTION PROCESS

The Page Education Foundation selection committee chooses NEW grant recipients based on their essay, letters of recommendation, a willingness to complete the Service-to-Children requirement and financial need.

The Page Education Foundation selection committee chooses RENEWING grant recipients based on the quality of their essay describing their Service-to-Children project from the previous year, the Service-to-Children evaluation form (new online form) that confirms the completion of the required 50 hours, and progress in studies (i.e. ability to maintain full-time status.)

Final Selections will be communicated the second week of June.

SERVICE-TO-CHILDREN PROJECT DETAILS

The Service-to-Children project is a volunteer service to a community organization in Minnesota. Selected grant recipients must volunteer to tutor/mentor children in kindergarten-8th grade. The minimum volunteer hours required during the academic school year by grant recipients is 50 hours.

Applicants, if selected, have agreed to complete a service-to-children project. Under circumstances that would prevent completion of the required service hours, recipients will forfeit the grant.

 There are no academic requirements.

 Non U.S. Citizens are encouraged to apply.

 This grant is a one year, renewable grant.

 Incomplete applicant packets will not be considered.

 Notification of application status will be sent out in early June.

 All applications must be post marked no later than May 1

APPLICATION PROCESS

The Page Education Foundation application window opens January 1 to May 1. For consideration, the application must be signed and all required materials must be postmarked no later than May 1. No faxed or emailed copies of applications will be accepted. An application, in order to be considered complete, must be accompanied by the following documents:

NEW APPLICANTS

□ Essay 1-2 Pages / 500 words: Your essay must address three areas:

1. Tell us why education is important to you

2. Describe your plans for the future

3. Describe the Service-to-Children volunteer project you would like to complete if awarded the scholarship

□ Two Letters of Recommendation:

1. One letter must be from a teacher at your school.

2. The other letter must be from an adult who is not related to you.

□ Copy of your Student Aid Report of the FAFSA/SAR or Parents’ most recent IRS tax form, SSI benefits or

MFIP/welfare benefits statement.

□ Copy of High School Transcript

□ Copy of College Transcript *For NEW College Applicants Only!*

RENEWING APPLICANTS (Former Page Scholars)

□ Essay 1-2 Pages / 500 words: Your essay must describe three areas:

1. Your Service-to-Children project including detailed information about the children you served

2. What you think you accomplished and gained from your service

3. Your plans for next years’ Service-to-Children project

□ Completed Evaluation Form: The Service-to-Children evaluation form completed and signed by your contact

at the school/organization where you volunteered.

□ Copy of your Student Aid Report of the FAFSA/SAR or Parents’ most recent IRS tax form, SSI benefits or MFIP/welfare benefits statement.

□ Copy of most recent College Transcript
