Jr. High Boys and Girls Action in Cass Lake

Cass Lake, MN - Monday evening was a quadruple header for the Jr High Boys and Girls teams in Cass Lake. The 7th grade games tipped off at 530, with 8th grade to follow. I don't have stats or scores for the girls, but Cass Lake won both contests.

In boys action, the Red Lake 7th graders came out struggling with the coaches decision to sit two starters for misconduct. The score at the half was 30-15 Panthers. Some adjustments were made in the locker room at the half and they paid off with a 20-1 run by Red Lake to cut the lead to 1 before a foul forced Will Morrison to the bench with 7 mins to go. Cass capitilized with a nice run to seal the game and win 54-43!

In a rematch in the 8th grade game, Red Lake was looking to avenge the loss earlier in the season at home when Red Lake was without Sonny Martin, Cass won that game 62-54. Red Lake came out on fire and took a 17 point lead early in the game with a halftime score of 39-24. Red Lake continued to control the boards, fast break and attack the basket drawing fouls, but Cass Lake, who came into the game undefeated, would not go down without a fight and mounted a nice run to cut the lead down and make it a ball game. With two minutes left Cass Lake was forced to foul as Red Lake was looking to run out the clock. With the double bonus in effect Red Lake was able to get two free throws on each foul. Martin and Cloud each went 3-4 from the line and Red Lake was able to grab key rebounds late to hold off the Panthers 68-65! Martin had a huge game with 25pts, 20rebs and shot 9-10 from the free throw line. Bryce Cloud again got out on the fast break and finished with 16pts, shot 3-4 from the FT line and hit a huge 3-pointer late in the game. Robert McClain finished with 13, was 2-2 from the line. Will Morrison finished with 11pts.

The team, 11-3, is on a 7-game winning streak and will face Nevis at home next Tuesday after completing a busy schedule of 6 games in 4 days.
