Leojean Rushman Nii-szhoo-equay Two Women Bear Clan

Leojean Rushman, of Bemidji died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center.

Traditional Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Ponemah Community Center with spiritual leader Steve Jackson. A wake will begin at 1:00pm, Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Ponemah Community Center and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Leojean was born on August 15, 1934, in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of Jack Jr. and Emma (Sayers) Rushman. She was raised and educated in Red Lake. When she was a teenager her family moved to Kelliher, MN, and later Northome. She would travel to Grand Forks, ND and work on the potato harvest. She moved to Ponemah, MN, and raised her family, occasionally living in Bemidji, MN. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and quilting. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by sons - Gary (Jody) Rushman of Nebish, MN, Donovan (Becky) Rushman of Bemidji, MN, Daughter -Toni Rushman of Ponemah, MN, Sisters, Emma Knudsen of Redby, MN, LaVina Rushman of Thief River Falls, MN, 7 Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Aldric Rushman Sr., daughter Debbie Rushman, brothers Cedric Rushman, Henry Rushman, sisters Lavina Rushman, Cecelia Kingbird, and Frances Smith.

Active Casketbearers will be Sonny Rushman, Tommy Ravensborg, Mike Ostlund, Dana LaDuke, Ron Kingbird, and Cedric LaDuke. Alternates will be Ernie Johnson Jr., and Robert Rushman Jr.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Moe Rushman, John Kingbird, Toni Rushman, Donna Rushman, Jessie Rabbit, Jack Rushman Parker, Tiffany Rust, Tonya Rust, Gary Rushman, and Donovan Rushman.
