Paul Bunyan Communications donates to statue project

Paul Bunyan Communications has made a $500 donation to the Chief Bemidji Statue Project.

The public art project supports the vision of creating a new, high-quality bronze statue of Shaynowishkung that will depict him in a realistic, dignified and respectful manner, and honor him and the Anishinaabe people of the region. The statue will be located in the redeveloped Library Park area.

The project’s success will rely on the support of individuals, local businesses and organizations. Grants are being written to area foundations and arts councils, and funds are being sought from local and regional tribes. Project organizers have been notified of a $25,000 matching grant from the George W. Neilson Foundation. The total project budget is $120,000 with about $60,000 left to raise.

Donations may be made to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation Chief Bemidji Statue Project Fun, and mailed to Chief Bemidji Statue Project Fund, c/o Northwest Minnesota Foundation, 4225 Technology Drive NW, Bemidji, MN 56601.
