Donald Lee Whitebird

Donald Lee Whitebird, 65, of Cass Lake, MN, passed away at his home on Monday, December 12, 2011. He was born on January 29, 1946 to Selam and Margaret (Cloud) Whitebird in Cass Lake, MN.

Donald entered the US Army following school and served a term as a mechanic in Germany. He later worked as an Alcohol Recovery Technician

for the half way house and detox center for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. He was also a driver for their programs. Donald enjoyed gambling with his female companions and going on road trips.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Eunice Whitebird-Fineday, brother; Elmer Whitebird, and a nephew; Charles Fineday.

Donald is survived by sister; Gloria Whitebird-Mellado of Cass Lake, brother; James Whitebird of Cass Lake, nieces; Margaret (Russell, Jr.) Bryan of Squaw Lake, Karen Fineday of Cass Lake, Gloria (Doug, Sr.) Fineday of Pennington, and Karen (George, Jr.) Mellado of Cass Lake, nephew Ross Mellado of Cass Lake, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A wake service for Donald will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, and continue until the 10:00 a.m. service on Thursday, December 15 all at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. Rev. John S. Rock will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Robert Harrison, Ronald Harrison, Jr., Randall Stangler, Rogelio "Ross" Mellado, Douglas Bryan, Jr. and Russell Bryan III. Honorary pallbearers will Jeremy Butcher, Luke Wilson, Roxanne Goose, Maxine Johnston, Stella Benjamin, Rogelio Mellado, Nancy Whitebird and James Robert Whitebird. Interment will be held in the Prince of Peace Cemetery at Misson/Cass Lake, MN.
