Red Lake High School Student Council Members Donate Food to Homeless Shelter

On Tuesday, November 29, 2011, the Red Lake High School Student Council delivered food items and cash they received during a food drive they sponsored last month.

Student Council members making the delivery were Marie Chaboyea, Jaylyn Isham, Russell Kingbird, Sara Mountain and Alyss Mountain, along with student council adviser, Dan Rogers.

"The student council was having a food drive between all grades and they received about 191 pounds of food," student council member Jaylyn Isham said. "The freshmen got 117 pounds on their own."

There was also $63 dollars in cash and it was all donated to the Red Lake Food Shelter. Student Council members said it was fun to organize and take part in.

“It’s just wonderful," Carol Priest, Red Lake Homeless Shelter Director, said. "I really appreciate the effort that they put into it. It’s really neat that a group of students would get all that together and donate it to other people in their community that need food, and help us out."

She thought that the students bringing over the food in the wagon was really cool, too—she was expecting a van or something else.

Priest said there were 17 people there now--8 adults and 7 kids--and that they would surely use the donation. She emphasized again that they were really grateful for the student’s efforts.
