Richard Lee Cobenais

 

Richard Lee Cobenais Sr. ”Sheshogii” was born in Redlake on January 1, 1942 the son of Baptiste & Doris Brown Cobenais. He grew up in Redlake. Then he traveled quite a bit across the U.S. Richard then moved to St. Paul and married Candace Bey and had three children (Richard Jr.,James and Tawnee) and later on he had another daughter (Georgina). His wife passed from cancer in 1984. He worked in construction until he was injured in 1994. He moved back to Redlake in 1998 were he lived out his final years.

He loved his children: Richard Cobenais Jr. (Georgia) of Wisconsin, James Cobenais Sr. (Billie Jean) of Red Lake, Tawnee Pliego (Pedro) of St. Paul and Georgina Cobenais (Russell Bunker); fourteen grandchildren especially his favorite Jenessa (Cobenais) who he pretty much raised (she was his “nessy bug”); a brother: Duane Cobenais of Florida and by a sister: Brenda Bellanger of Cass Lake, MN .; other relatives and friends. He also loved gambling at the Casino and spending time with his family and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Duane “Chicken” Cobenais Sr., Harry “Butch”Smith, Larry Hardy, Donald Hardy, Timmy Stone, Frank Taylor and alternates are: Mike O’Neil and Ted Roy. Pallbearers are: James Cobenais Sr., Richard Cobenais Jr., Bryan “Pun” Sumner, Richard “John” Sumner, Pedro Pliego, Carter Redeagle and alternates are: Augustin Pliego and Lee Bunker.

Funeral services for Richard Lee Cobenais Sr. “Sheshogii” will be held on Wednesday, November 30th at 11:00 A.M. the Little Rock Center on the Red Lake Reservation. Officiating will be Father Jerry Rogers.

Special music will be by Evan Redeagle.

All night wakes will be held on Monday, November 28th and Tuesday, November 29th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Little Rock Center on the Red Lake Reservation.
