Nominees Announced for Hospital Charitable Service Awards

ATLANTA, GA (November 3, 2011) – One hundred ninety-eight hospital programs have been named official nominees for the 2011 Hospital Charitable Service Awards, a national program sponsored by Jackson Healthcare, now in its second year.

On Friday, October 14, 2011, the application period closed for hospitals to nominate programs for the awards. According to Jackson, program nominees encompassed hospitals of all sizes and structures throughout the U.S.

According to Awards program Chairman, Charles R. Evans, FACHE, the Hospital Charitable Service Awards program was created to celebrate and encourage the spread of the nation's most effective charitable services. The focus of the awards program is to find, reward and share the stories of hospitals that consistently push beyond their core mission of providing essential healthcare services and generously give back to the communities they serve. A key metric the program measures is return-on-invested giving.

“We are very interested in helping hospitals learn from each other in ways that promote the spread of charitable programs in communities throughout the country,” said Evans. “Every hospital that shares its story and experiences provides other hospitals with motivation and resources to do the same.”

Evans said the advisory board now faces the challenging task of reviewing the applications to identify those programs believed to be models for the healthcare industry. Finalists will be announced in a conference call in December. Award recipients will be announced at a banquet following a national charitable services conference on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hospital programs applied based upon five criteria areas: community impact, innovation, collaboration, transferability and best practice. To be considered a nominee, applicants must meet at least one of the criteria areas.

Nominees were encouraged to submit video descriptions of their program. These videos will be shared through the official awards website (www.hospitalcharitableserviceawards.org) and social media sites like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Jackson Healthcare is also helping finalists share their stories through their local and regional media.
