Predatory offender convicted after jury trial in Cass County

A man must serve a mandatory two-year prison term after a Cass County jury convicted him for violating predatory offender registration requirements and burglary.

Robert Arthur Litzau, 69, was convicted Thursday after a three-day trial in Walker.

The offenses occurred in the Pine River and Backus area in May 2010.

First Assistant Cass County Attorney Barbara J. Harrington prosecuted the case after an investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension-Predatory Offender Registration Unit.

The conviction marks Litzau’s second violation of the state’s registration requirements. Previously, he was convicted of a similar offense in Crow Wing County in 2009.

Litzau was taken into custody after the trial and will be held pending a sentencing hearing, expected in early December.
