Meet the Artist - Terri Young

As part of their 2011 Featured Artist program the Blank Canvas Gallery and Education Center in Park Rapids will host a reception for well known area artist Terri Young, November/December Featured Artist on Friday, November 4th from 4:00-6:00 PM.

In addition, two new guest artists, Sandy Fynboh, glass artist, and Mark Carlson, metal sculptor, are being represented in the gallery in November and December. This is being done so visitors to the gallery may have the pleasure of viewing other artists’ artwork that they may otherwise not have the opportunity to appreciate.

Plan to enjoy refreshments and mingle with Terri, other BCG artist members, and guest artists at the gallery, 311 Main Ave. S. in downtown Park Rapids.

The subjects and styles of Terri’s artwork are varied. See a selection of her pastel and acrylic paintings as well as her handmade jewelry and other creative artworks, including new pieces not shown before, displayed at the gallery. Terri’s favorite medium is pastels – sticks of pure colored pigment that may look like colored chalk but which are so much more than that. See the paintings she creates with these sticks of pure pigment. Her jewelry is made with stoneware clay. The clay is rolled, shaped, glazed and kiln fired to produce the different colored beads and pendants that are strung with cord and sometimes wire.

Find out what her inspiration is and how her experiences as an artist and private art teacher have influenced her work.

Guest artist Sandy Fynboh, well known glass artist from the Akeley area promises to have a new selection of her blown glass bead jewelry on display at BCG for this event. Her skill working with the glass materials helps her to create very unique and colorful blown glass beads and jewelry pieces. People often comment that they have never seen anything like them before. BCG is happy to welcome Sandy as a guest artist for November and December.

Mark Carlson, metal sculptor, is another new addition to BCG as a guest artist for the months of November and December. His work has already been on display there a short while and visitors to the gallery are full of praise for what they are seeing of his artwork. He creates his metal pieces using a blend of blacksmithing techniques ranging from basic traditional to more modern techniques. His ornamental and architectural pieces are all one-of-a-kind guaranteeing that each one is unique and offers patrons the assurance of an individual piece with a feeling of hand crafted elegance. His inspiration reflects nature and flowers in each hand forged piece. Each of Mark’s metal creations is uniquely crafted – not a mass-produced item.

Featured Artist Terri Young and the other artists have unique and interesting objects de art on display at BCG. This is a wonderful opportunity for the public to see something different, ask questions of the artists and learn more about the artwork that is created by the many talented artists in the region. Visitors may even be inspired to try their own hand at some form of artistic expression themselves. Maybe next year they will be displaying their own artwork at the Blank Canvas Gallery in Park Rapids.
