Charlene Martin, Indian name, Mushkoways, To Be Strong, 52, of Warroad, MN died Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the LifeCare Medical Center, Roseau, MN.

Traditional Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Little Rock Community Center. A wake will begin 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Little Rock Community Center. Interment will be in the Family Burial Grounds, Red Lake, MN. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji, MN.

Honorary Bearers will be Karen Dethmers, Shirley Anderson, Jane Ryan, Kathy Defoe, Kerry Holter, Patsy Spears, Donna Jourdain and Patsy Maxwell. Alternate, Beryl Rock.

Casket Bearers will be Ronald Long, Bradley Long, Larry Long, Gary Long, Stuart Sumner, Darryl Maxwell and Al Oakgrove. Alternate, Burt Redeagle.

Charlene Rose Martin was born May 20, 1959 to Charles G. & Marian (Ryan) Martin in Red Lake, MN. She graduated from Red Lake High School in 1977. She attended Detroit Lakes AVTI Nursing Program where she graduated on August 8, 1985. She worked at JPECC then moved to Minneapolis where she was employed at Cedar Pines then moved to Warroad and worked for Cash Systems for 8 years and the last 4 years she worked at the 7 Clans Casino as a cashier. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, attending pow-wows, traveling and taking care of her new granddaughter, Jaycie.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Kakaygeesick of Warroad ,; children, Shawn Martin of Red Lake, Cheyenne (B-Guy) Martin of Red Lake, Lisa (Gary) Spears of Ponemah and Dakota (Matt) Kakaygeesick of Warroad; step-children, Barbara Joslyn and Curtis Kakaygeesick; parents, Charles and Marian Martin of Red Lake; special grandson, Christopher (Datrene Powassin) Martin of Warroad; foster child, Delainey Powassin; brothers, Charles (Faythe) Martin Jr., Gerald (Wendy) Martin, William Martin and Myron (Mary) Martin all of Red Lake; sister, Donna Prentice of Red Lake; half sister, Marilyn Feather of Red Lake.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles & Maggie Ryan; Elizabeth Long, Mamie & Louie Redeagle, Rachel & Jim Stand and Sam & Mary Rainey; aunt & uncle, George & Julia Whitefeather; aunts, Catherine Long and Rose Marie Ryan; uncle, Wilbert Maxwell.
