Motorists warned after Minn. trooper hits deer

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Even the Minnesota State Patrol isn't safe when deer decide to jump out in front of a car.

The patrol released both pictures and dash-cam video Wednesday of a trooper colliding with a deer Sunday night on Highway 15 south of Hutchinson. The deer jumped out from the left side of the road, and its head and antlers ended up going through the driver's side windshield.

KARE-TV ( http://bit.ly/oPU8ot) reports the trooper's dashboard camera was destroyed. The trooper had only minor injuries.

Deer-vehicle crashes tend to pick up in October and November. According to a State Farm Insurance scale, Minnesota is one of the highest-risk states for deer collisions in the country.
