New Friendly and Colorful Welcome to Be Erected at Red Lake South Border

A new welcome sign designed and painted by Patrick Desjarlait will be erected by Ross Lewis Sign Company on Tuesday morning October 18 beginning at 9:30 AM.

It is expected that the steel frame will take between two and three hours to erect. The boards with the painting on them is expected to be in process between noon and 1 PM.

The colorful sign measures 10 x 18 feet. It was painted by Red Lake High School art teacher and artist Patrick Desjarlait. A total of four signs with this same painting will be erected during that week, one at each border point. Wooden frame signs will be erected at the reservation line on the east [traveling towards] Busy Corner, on the west near Fourtown, and also on County Rd. #6 on the way to Clearbrook. The sign being erected on Hwy. 89 on the border near the Seven Clans Casino will be steel framed and lighted.

Patrick Desjarlait is a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM and the Minneapolis College of Arts and Design.
