DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provides age specific nursing care to all categories of patients in accordance with education and experience under professional supervision.

· Provides basic nursing care to all categories of patients in accordance with education and experience under professional nurse supervision.

· Provides oral hygiene, cares for elimination needs, maintains clean linen on all emergency room carts, escorts, or transports patients to other departments.

· Assists with the assessment of patients by undressing, obtaining TPR, BP, height and weight, caring for patient clothing and possessions, and assessing patient condition.

· Recognizes and provides for appropriate support as needed.

· Does simple diagnostic screening such as diabetic urine’s, accucheck, etc., and simple procedures such as hot/cold packs, and sets up supplies needed for dressing changes, etc.

· Sets up and assists professionals with more complicated diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

· Understands and observes medical aseptic techniques in delivery room, newborn nursery, isolation, etc., per procedure manual or professional nurse instructions.

· Maintains patient safety and comfort by observing and reporting of unsafe equipment or practices.

· Alerts nurse immediately regarding pregnant patients presenting in possible labor.

· Maintains appropriate records per hospital policy such as entering patient information into the emergency room log such as chart number, patient name and date of birth.

· Reports and records action, observations, and results of procedures immediately alerting supervisor to changes in patient condition.

· Assists nursing staff with getting appropriate paperwork completed, copies of chart needed for emergent and non-emergent transfer.

· Participates in patient care conference, reports and nursing care planning.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Individual Occupational Requirements

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:

Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care.

Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.

Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.

Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.

OR

Education and Training:

For GS-4:

Successful completion of a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

GS-4: Six (6) months of general experience AND six (6) months of specialized experience.

OR

Education: Two (2) years above high school with course related to the occupation, if required.

General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.

Examples of Specialized Experience: Takes and records vital signs, assists Doctor with physical and diagnostic examinations.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

First notification: Once the online questionnaire and resume are received, you will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successfully received.
