Sabraski gets two wins

One of the highlights of every summer at Bemidji Speedway is the night the kids race their home-made box cars. This year a record number of youngsters participated, ranging in age from two to 10.

But the “real” racing Sunday night included a rare double feature win by Shane Sabraski and first-time win for Cory Peterson.

Next Sunday will be a special night at Bemidji Speedway as it includes the season championship. The final regular race of season will also be run and champions will be named.

Doug VanMill made a quick move inside turn one on the second lap to pass Dustin Puffe and maintained the lead the rest of the way.

The feature included a field of 17 Midwest Modifieds and, after a six-car pile-up involving many of the leaders, Shane Sabraski worked his way from the third row into the lead pack and went on to win.

Tim LaVoi grabbed the lead on the first lap and never looked back. Billy Smith was second, Rick Watson third, Ev Barrett fourth and Zack Peterson fifth.

Inching closer lap after lap Shane Sabraski reeled in Tyler Kintner, finally catching the current point leader in the class after several laps. Kintner gave Sabraski a battle for the lead but could not hold off the inside charges.

Sabraski won his second feature of the night. Kintner, Gary Nelson, Jr., Bret Schmidt and Dalton Carlson rounded out the top five.

Following a caution flag and a restart Cory Peterson took control and captured the checkered flag. Current points leader Joel Harvey finished second, Bill Chaboyea third, Wade Schmidt fourth and Bill Beaulieu fifth.

Conrad Schwinn won the entertaining race followed by Brandon Kellen, Tommy Sabraski, Fran Hauber and Brady LaVoi.
