Shirley A. White

Shirley Ann White, "Makoonce" which means "Little Bear Cub", 74, of Onigum, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at her home with her family by her side. Her daughter Marilyn and granddaughter Ashley were her primary care givers, giving back to Shirley all the care she had given to them as children growing up.

She was born on January 25, 1937 in Onigum, MN the daughter of John and Frances (Johnson) Ellis. Shirley grew up in Onigum until she married Lyman White, Sr. on November 19, 1954. They lived in Chicago and Minneapolis prior to moving back to Onigum in 1975 where they resided until their deaths.

Shirley enjoyed quilting, embroidering, crocheting, and painting ceramics. She loved making things for her children and relatives. Shirley spent her time with her children enjoying outdoor activities such as swimming and nature walks and long rides to cedar point, stony point, and old ricing camps. She enjoyed many summer trips with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyman White, Sr., granddaughter Leann Dick, two grandsons, two great grandsons, and all her brothers and sisters.

Shirley is survived by her sons; Gary(Deby) White of Onigum and Lyman (Lisa) White, Jr. of Onigum, daughters; Vicki (Burt Howard) White of Onigum, Carol White of Onigum, Debbie (Curtis) Isham of Onigum and Marilyn Harrison of Onigum, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A wake service for Shirley will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, and continue until the 11:00 a.m. service on Monday, August 22 at the Onigum Community Center in Onigum. Rev. Harold Eaglebull and Intern Zack Nelson will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Lee White, Brad White, Raleigh White, Eric Isham, Bill Bowstring and Steve Kent. Honorary pallbearers will be Marcy Buck, Denise Ellis, Clarice White, Della Whitebird, Hazel Nordmarken, Barb Bearheart, Betsy Allen, Gloria Dudley, Margaret Papasodora, Lila Brown, Kyle Jacobs, Preston Dick, Myron Ellis and Donnie Wright. Interment will be held in St. John'sEpiscopal Cemetery at Old Agency.
