Road Construction Projects Updates

CITY OF BEMIDJI - effective Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 7:00 AM there will be a short section of Birchmont Dr NE, in front of Birch Hall, BSU, closed just south of Diamond Point park for three days in order to install some lines water lines. Diamond Point Park will still be accessible although there will be barricades for the construction. Motorists can make their way around the barricades if they come in from the north side of the Park and enter. Use caution and watch for workers. Detour signs will be in place.

UPDATED: be advised the Birchmont Dr NE road project which would have closed a section of road for three days this week has been postponed due to the influx of students coming to BSU starting this week. In order to mitigate traffic issues, the project will not happen for at least three weeks giving the students time to get settled in and classes well underway.

FROM MNDOT- if you are traveling to Brainerd/Baxter - Motorists should plan for heavy traffic volumes on Brainerd Lakes Area highways-especially Highway 371-Thursday, Aug. 18, through Sunday, Aug. 21. More than 100,000 visitors will attend the 30th annual Lucas Oil National Hot Rod Association Nationals race at the Brainerd International Raceway. Work on the Highway 371 construction project south of Green Gables Road will be restricted to reduce traffic impacts. Crews will work from north of Green Gables Road to Pequot Lakes, and lane restrictions will be in effect in the areas where crews are working.

FROM MNDOT- if you are traveling on Hwy 94 between Monticello and St Cloud - Utility work involving use of a helicopter - The CapX2020 utilities will begin using a helicopter for work on the Monticello-St. Cloud 345 kilovolt (kV) transmission line project on Tuesday, August 16. A helicopter will be flying in close proximity to the new transmission line structures along Interstate 94 between Monticello and St. Cloud. It will assist in the stringing of transmission conductor (wire) from structure to structure as well as for installing supporting hardware. Most transmission line work will be performed without touching the ground. Implosive connectors will also be used in the power line construction to splice transmission conductor joints. The split second detonation creates a flash and a loud boom near the top of the transmission structure. Implosive connectors produce a smoother, stronger and more electrically efficient connection. The connectors also can significantly reduce construction time, resulting in fewer environmental impacts and lower project costs. The helicopter and implosive connector work is expected to last through October. Motorists are reminded to keep their eyes on the road. Don't stop. Don't gawk. Drive safely.
