Joylyn De Layne “Joy” Oliver (No Din Nokwa “Wind Woman”, Dii Bii Kii Giiz Nookwe “Moon Woman” Mii Gii Zikwe “Eagle Woman” Wey Daa Bang Noo Kwe “The Coming of the Eastern Morning Woman”), 20, of Red Lake, MN, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND due to medical complications. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Friday, July 29, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Red Lake Center and continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Joylyn De Layne Oliver was born June 9, 1991 in Bemidji, MN to April Oliver and the late Francis (Rusty) Smith. Joy attended Red Lake Schools, the Red Lake ALC program and the Wahpeton Indian School in ND. Joy loved to swim with her friends and family. She enjoyed watching her nieces, nephews, and her cousins-they always looked forward to seeing her. Joy was a thrill seeker; she loved the rides at Valley Fair. At home she loved listening to music, playing games on her PS3 and being on Facebook. Joy had her cell phone by her side always textn. Joy loved to laugh and joke around with everyone she always put a smile on her peeps face’s and brightened up her friends spirits when she was “chilling” with them! Joy had many nicknames her favorite was “Bubs” which stood out the most for her, because her late Uncle Alan “Al” Oliver gave her that special name. Joy enjoyed watching her nephews which inspired her to pursue her own day care program.

Joy is survived by her mother April Oliver of Red Lake, siblings Jesse Smith, Sr., of Red Lake, Jeffery (Megan) Oliver of Redby, Julie (Ron) Smith of Redby, and Leah Barrett of Bemidji, grandmothers Joyce Roy of Red Lake and Jean Smith of Minneapolis, and great grandmother Mae Audrey Cobenais along with her nieces and nephews.

Joy was preceded in death by her father Francis George (Rusty) Smith, grandfather Donald Louis Smith, grandfather Raymond Oliver, Sr. and her uncles Alan Oliver, Joseph “Cooper” Oliver and Gerry Lussier, aunts Vicky Smith, Carol Kugel and cousins.
