RLYB Upsets FNB & Verizon for Back to Back Wins

In Bemidji Youth Baseball action Thursday night, Red Lake used a 12-run third inning to put away 1st National Bank for their second victory of the season.

The game was called due to darkness after 4 innings.

Red Lake was led offensively by Chase Cobenais who went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple to go along with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Pat Tahahwah chipped in with a bases loaded double, 2 runs scored and 8 strikeouts in 3 innings as the starting pitcher. Jaden Wood added a bases loaded triple and Cole Cobenais went 3 for 3 while scoring 3 runs.

In Tuesday night action, Red Lake kept their momentum with another upset victory in extra innings over Verizon by rallying from 6 runs down by scoring 8 runs in the final 3 innings to give them a record of 3-12 on the season.

Verizon started the game by scoring 5 runs off of starting pitcher Jaden Wood only for Red Lake to answer in their half of the inning with 4 runs of their own.

In the 2nd inning, Verizon was able to get 3 more runs off Wood. Red Lake was able to match them with a Pat Tahahwah double to make the score 8-7.

Verizon then got hot in the 4th inning by scoring 5 more runs to take a 13-7 lead, leaving Red Lake a little overwhelmed.

Relief pitcher Austin May was able to hold Verizon the rest of the way. Red Lake scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to cut the lead to 3.

In the 6th inning, Pat Tahahwah then came up to bat after a lead off single by Rob Beaulieu and walk by Austin May and brought them in with an RBI triple. Tahahwah eventually scored to tie the game at 13-13 and send the game into extra innings.

Verizon was able to take the lead in their half of the 7th and threatened to score more but May was able to strike out the side to end the threat.

Much like the 6th inning, Rob Beaulieu led it off with a single and was followed by an Austin May walk to start the threat. After Tahahwah popped up, it was up to Tom May, Jr. with the tying run on 2nd and the winning run on 1st. After working the count to 2 balls and 2 strikes, Tom May, Jr. drilled a rocket up the middle to score Beaulieu to tie the game and Austin May came in to score on a Verizon throwing error to give Red Lake their 2nd consecutive victory.

Red Lake was led offensively by Austin May who scored 6 runs, Rob Beaulieu III who went 2 for 4 and scored 3 runs, Pat Tahahwah went 2 for 5 with 5 RBIs, leadoff man Jaden Wood was on base 5 times while scoring twice, Rekoe Graves went 1 for 3, and Tom May, Jr. went 2 for 5, scored 2 runs and had the game winning RBI.

Red Lake finishes their season Thursday by taking on 1st place Knights of Columbus.
