2011 Pacesetter JV Summer Tournament

Saturday July 23, 2011, Moose Lake High School.

The team departed Friday and stayed in the beautiful Radisson Harborview in downtown Duluth, and headed out at 830 in a very strong thunderstorm for the journey down I-35 to Moose Lake HS. The weather and a detour had us arriving at the gym with 5 minutes to spare, which is something we're used to. First up was Virginia in this 4-team tournament.

The boys came out focused and switched defenses from the prior game and it proved successful as it took their big man, 6' 3" out of the game and A. Beaulieu dominated the boards with 9 in the 1st 11mins! The home team was forced to call a timeout 7 mins into the game as we jumped out to a 16-5 lead. The halftime score was 32-11 Red Lake. The Warriors did not let up and kept throwing different lloks at them on D, in the end Holthusen led all scorers with 33pts, with 5 three pointers and 5 rebs, A. Beaulieu 8pts and a huge 15 rebs, Roy had another solid performance and 8pts, Russ Kingbird, 8th grader, stepped in with a huge game of 8pts, 4 offensive rebs, M. Beauleu 5pts, and was having a block party in the lane, Devin Neadeau 5pts, Trevenn Beaulieu 1pt, 1stl, Dave Cook 4rebs, Spears 4rebs, 2 blks in a solid team effort as the defense was too much, as the Warriors brought home the Championship 67-41!

Much thanks to the RL Tribal Council and donations committee for the financial support to make this happen for these young men, Chem Health for the replacement van on short notice after the original van blew a spark plug on my way to get the kids. And to all the Parents/Grandparents who have invested time and money into their kids' basketball careers, this is a talented group and many have been playing at a higher grade level most of their young careers, but we got to see what they can do against kids their own age, and the comments and compliments from people in the gym were all positive.
