White Earth Tribal Court upholds $20 million judgment against Gaming World International

The White Earth Tribal Court denied Motions made by Angelo Medure and his alter ego Gaming World International (GWI) for a new trial clearing the way for the people of White Earth to recover on a nearly $20 million judgment against Medure and Gaming World International.

The Tribal Court, by an Order dated July 8, 2011, ordered Medure personally and Gaming World International to file a bond to secure the payment of the $18,562,767.45 money judgment entered against them on Nov. 18, 2010.

The Tribal Court reiterated that Medure conspired with former White Earth Chairman Darrel “Chip” Wadena “to strip profits of the casino and deprive the people of White Earth of the repayment of the White Earth Land Settlement Act (WELSA) Economic Development Fund.” Medure conspired with Gaming World International to deprive the people of White Earth of the benefits of gaming. The Tribal Court observed that “GWI never had an employee on the Shooting Star Casino properties but yet took over $10 million in profit.” The Tribal Court found Medure to have been involved in a conspiracy to engage in fraudulent activities including bid rigging and failure to repay WELSA Economic Development Funds. Medure “used his position and the corporate shell of Gaming World International as a means to commit employee theft on a grand scale.”

White Earth Chairwoman Erma J. Vizenor announced today that the White Earth Tribe would use all legal means to collect the money judgment from Medure. The people of White Earth expect Medure to honor his obligations to repay the amounts wrongfully taken from White Earth.

“We ask Medure to honor his legal and moral obligation to make things right with the people of White Earth,” Vizenor said. “Tribal officials involved in this conspiracy have been brought to justice and served sentences in prison. Now the actions of Medure must be held accountable for his wrongdoing.”
